Argan Oil (Cosmetic)
Cold-pressed oil from the nuts of the argan tree, used for skin, hair, and nail care. Morocco is the only significant source in the world.
History & Cultural Context
Argan oil has been produced by Amazigh women in southwestern Morocco for centuries. The argan tree (Argania spinosa) is endemic to the Souss region and UNESCO-protected. Women's cooperatives have become the primary producers, providing fair-trade income.
