Saffron Threads
Hand-harvested saffron stigmas from the Taliouine region, the world's second-largest saffron producer after Iran. The most expensive spice by weight.
History & Cultural Context
Saffron cultivation in Morocco dates to the 10th century in the Taliouine region of the Anti-Atlas mountains. Each crocus flower produces only three stigmas, which must be hand-picked at dawn. It takes approximately 150,000 flowers to produce 1 kilogram of saffron.
