History & Cultural Context
Tuareg crosses are among the most recognized Saharan jewelry forms. There are traditionally 21 different cross designs, each representing a location along the caravan routes. The Agadez cross is the most famous. While originating from Tuareg culture (primarily Niger and Mali), they are widely produced and sold in southern Morocco.
